DE NOVO features new bodies of work by Trish Andersen, Gretchen Wagner, Angela Carter, and Amanda Brazier. Derived from Latin, meaning “from the beginning” or “anew and afresh,” this show brings together four Southeastern Artists who are exploring new ways of reinterpreting familiar themes using a diverse range of tactile mixed media materials. Trish Andersen’s “Looking Out, Looking In,” is a new series of three dimensional tufted works that explore the balance between daydreaming, being present & finding comfort through change. Gretchen Wagner’s “Color Interaction IV” is a series of mixed media paintings inspired by her curiosity and research on the relativity of color – a love letter to the work of Josef and Anni Albers. Angela Carter’s “Happy Day” reimagines the history of indigo dye in the American South, coined ‘Blue Gold,’ through a series of abstract mixed media paintings. Amanda Brazier’s handmade paint and paper works “The Birds Are My Prayer” are an attempt to cultivate her own sense of listening by examining bird sonograms and bird calls.
