SUMMARY:Braiding Time\, Memory and Water
DESCRIPTION:Braiding Time\, Memory and Water is a site-specific\, environmental (earth) artistic creation by Sue Schroeder alongside and in collaboration with conceptual artist Jonathon Keats and composer Felipe Pérez Santiago. The performance\, including an ensemble of dance artists and percussion\, responds to the geography\, history\, and environmental concerns along the Chattahoochee River as it meanders through the Atlanta metropolitan area: Tanyard Creek Park\, a tranquil 14.50-acre park follows the Peachtree Creek through Buckhead’s Collier Hills neighborhood. At this performance site (April 26 & 27\, 2025 at Tanyard Creek Park) the work will follow the braiding paths of the water over the duration of approximately an hour. With the braid as central to the creative action of the performance\, the work follows the naturally occurring form that is composed and performed by water as it flows. The composition is inscribed in the land through ongoing passage\, which varies based on fluctuations in flow rate. The river\, therefore\, acts as a natural timekeeper and a collaborator in the performances. Ambient sound and field recordings integrated into a larger sound composition further nature’s collaboration in the work.\n\nPerformances are at 2PM and 4PM each day. Join us for 1PM and 3PM each day for Community Art Activities. All events are free and open to the public!\n\nPresented by Flux Projects in collaboration with Core Dance.

SUMMARY:REEL Art: #3 - wakh^tahslu:nihe: Dressing Up the Garden
DESCRIPTION:wakh^tahslu:nihe: Dressing Up the Garden \nThis film\, grounded in Oneida cosmology\, guides an audience through a felt sense of becoming a plant and becoming a garden at the same time. By imagining their body as corn\, beans\, squash\, strawberries\, and tobacco\, a dancer roots into their plant body to discover new sense-abilities and ways of being in relation to humans and non-humans. The film challenges the Western notion of individuality and invites the viewer to consider multiple ways of perceiving\, interacting\, and caring for their relations. It asks how each of us might nurture the interconnected garden that we all are \nCredits ????\nA Sweet Labour Art Collective Production\nProduced by Kevin O’Connor and Ruth Douthwright\nDancer/Choreographer: Montana Summer\nScript: Brooke Chrisjohn with Montana Summers and Kevin O’Connor\nVoice: Brooke Chrisjohn\nFilm Maker: Marshall Stonefish\nComposer and Musician: Brandon Valdivia\nAnimation: AVA Animation & Visual Arts \n

SUMMARY:REEL Art: #2 - Becoming Black Walnut Tree\, Becoming Forest
DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, at the age of 47\, Billy\, a two-spirit visual artist and one of the originators of the Sweet Labour Arts Collective\, died. He asked us to continue working with him after he was gone. In 2022\, we produced a community-engaged art event inspired by Billy’s prompt\, a community feast\, dance performance and film. The work featured footage from a site-based performance where we guided the audience through a decolonial somatic imaginary practice of becoming a walnut tree. This experience became the impetus for this short film called “Becoming Walnut Tree\, Becoming Forest.” The piece was inspired by the place where Billy’s ashes were scattered at Oneida Nation in a grove of walnut trees.\nThis film embraces the idea that what you imagine your body can become to guide the viewer to become a tree and forest simultaneously. Using scientific studies on plant sentience and Oneida ways of knowing\, the film invites audiences to envision themselves as a beautiful Black Walnut Tree\, who are both male and female at the same time\, to root into the colonial stories that have shaped them\, and to envision new possible forest worlds. \nCredits ????\nA Sweet Labour Art Collective Production\nProduced by Kevin O’Connor and Ruth Douthwright\nScript: Brooke Chrisjohn\, Kevin O’Connor and Linda Jantz\nVoice: Brooke Chrisjohn\nFilm Maker: Marshall Stonefish\nDancers: Ruth Douthwright\, Montana Summers\, Kevin O’Connor\, Linda Jantz\, Brooke Chrisjohn\nComposer and Musician: Wormwood\, Christina Willatt and Andrew C. SUMMARY:Salon: The Art of Conversation\, Joshua Gilyard
DESCRIPTION:Join Joshua Gilyard\, Core Dance Artist In Residence\, for an intimate experience of the creative process. \nSalons are incubators where ideas are conceived\, gestated\, and hatched. Salons are the frontiers of social and cultural change: they cultivate creativity\, revive the art of conversation\, and fuel energy to change the world. Salons are gatherings where people talk “big talk\,” talk meant to be listened to and perhaps passionately acted upon. \nAn important reason for a salon is to practice creativity in a setting where one needn’t fear judgment of his/her/their efforts. Conversation is the way we convey information\, inspire each other\, and achieve understanding. Conversation is the way we challenge\, amuse\, and amaze each other.

SUMMARY:Braiding Time\, Memory and Water
DESCRIPTION:Braiding Time\, Memory and Water is a site-specific\, environmental (earth) artistic creation by Sue Schroeder alongside and in collaboration with Conceptual Artist\, Jonathon Keats and Composer\, Felipe Pérez Santiago. The performance\, including an ensemble of Dance Artists and Percussion\, responds to the geography\, history and environmental concerns of two locations along the Chattahoochee River as it meanders through the Atlanta Metropolitan area: Powers Island\, one of the most serene sections Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area\, and Zonalite Park\, a 13-acre nature sanctuary along the Southfork of Peachtree Creek\, a tributary of the Chattahoochee River.\n\nAt these performance sites\, October 19 & 20\, 2024 at Powers Island and April 26 & 27\, 2025 at Zonalite Park\, the work will follow the braiding paths of the river over the duration of approximately an hour. With the braid as central to the creative action of the performance\, the work follows the naturally occurring form that is composed and performed by water as it flows. The composition is inscribed in the land through ongoing passage\, which varies based on fluctuations in flow rate. The river\, therefore\, acts as a natural timekeeper and a collaborator in the performance(s). Ambient sound and field recordings integrated into a larger sound composition further nature’s collaboration in the work.\n\nPresented by Flux Projects in collaboration with Core Dance
