SUMMARY:A Body for Hunger and Desire\, Too - A Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The Bakery Atlanta presents A Body for Hunger and Desire\, Too\, an exhibition curated by MN Nunes. Opening September 12\, 2024\, the exhibition will feature drawings\, reliefs\, installation\, painting\, sculpture\, performance\, and lens-based work to engage with the ways we reach for sustenance in the face of authority’s systemic denial. A Body for Hunger and Desire\, Too converses with the connections between hunger\, satiation\, urgency\, authority\, and desire\, abstracted and examined in their alignment with and against liberation. \nWho holds the authority to make us desperate? What role does desire play in our rage? What is a body (of one\, of many) to do with the cycles of hunger\, unfufillment\, anger\, and desire? The work of Autumn Nelson\, Eve Brown\, Faith Fidgeon\, Fatou Bessem\, Jamil Fatti\, Katy Beltrán\, Kiara Gilbert\, Hannah Helton\, Hiroko Kelly\, and Stephanie Howard converge together to present a response. \nAs part of the exhibition’s mission\, attendees can make donations\, with 60% supporting Sol Underground and 40% benefiting The Bakery Atlanta. \nOpening reception will be September 12th from 6 pm to 9 pm. \nWork will be on view during gallery hours the 13th through 17th.

SUMMARY:"If The Creek Don't Rise" a multimedia art exhibition
DESCRIPTION:If the Creek Don’t Rise is a multimedia art exhibition celebrating the resilience\, resourcefulness\, and beauty of the diverse American South through the lens of the Southern Gothic. In a region fraught with ongoing legislative strife and continued disenfranchisement\, how do new generations explore the region’s rich and complex cultural history while grappling with inequities both past and present? Like the reclamatory sprawl of kudzu to a decaying monument\, If the Creek Don’t Rise is a hopeful exploration of community and forging new traditions that seeks to challenge preconceived notions of the Southern populace. \nWe are proud to present the Atlanta Solidarity Fund as our esteemed beneficiary. The Atlanta Solidarity Fund is a 501(c3) non-profit committed to assisting activists facing repression by providing resources such as jail support\, bail\, and access to legal representation.
