September concert photos: Ringo Starr, Amyl and the Sniffers, and The Mars Volta

Each month, concert photographer Perry Julien shares photos he took exclusively for ArtsATL of shows he attended at various venues across Atlanta.

This month’s concerts include Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on September 19. The fabled Beatles drummer indeed brought a band of musical luminaries that included Edgar Winter, Colin Hay from Men At Work, Hamish Sturt from The Average White Band, along with Steve Lukather and Warren Ham from Toto.

Also included are photos from Amyl and The Sniffers from their sold-out Variety Playhouse concert September 21. The Australian group was one of the “buzz” bands from this year’s Shaky Knees Festival.

Finally, The Mars Volta with opening act Teri Gender Bender from their sold-out show at the Tabernacle. The Mars Volta, based out of El Paso, Texas, went on hiatus in 2012 but reunited to record a new album in 2019. This is the band’s first concert tour in 11 years.
